Go Bananas...literally

So, Tio Cesar (whom I call Tio Platano) has a banana plantation and loves giving us a LOAD of ripe bananas...hm..what do you do with hundreds of ripe bananas??

It´s fun the first time he comes, the girls usually make torta de platano, which isn´t really a cake it´s just flatter banana bread made with corn meal and levadura instead of baking powder (actually they like eating it with mustard, which i find really strange and only so-so when i tried it) and sometimes they make a smoothie and freeze it, and of course peel many of the best ones to freeze and later make choco-banana...YUM!

Amber and I got creative with the girls, trying new banana recipes (she even tried making banana chips one day, turned out alright). After we finally finished using up all the bananas, baked until our hearts content, what do wear? the doorbell...yep, he´s back with a whole other load. Now to get rid of the peels and the few that were insalvagable, we bring them to the neighbors for their cattle. We do give some away to neighbors as well, but even the cattle get sick of banana peels.

Amber decides to make banana bread and huge banana cookies (more like regular bread the girls make with bananas inside). She also tried some banana chips one day, they actually turned out alright. A couple days later, to finish off all the bananas, the girls get her cookie recipe and bake one evening. They ask for help, so i put on my mandil and get started. We danced in the panaderia, mixed, dished out the masa on pans, and had lots of fun. We even made a banana face masks that I found online, and got a couple girls to do it with me, incase you are wondering it does work. After the 3rd week of banana bread and these huge cookies for breakfast and snack each and everyday, you can imagine...def. sick of bananas... looks like he´s coming again in another week or two (hopefully two), but we will def. be giving away more and baking much less this time around.

Well, now that I´m full of masa after our last night of baking, smooth skin from the banana mask, and all danced out, time for bed...
Exercise, encouraging our creativitiy, good skin, yummy and healthy treats, fun times with the girls...
I suppose these bananas aren´t so bad after all.
