So here´s the sick news...
We have three newbies, sisters, youngest being 3 1/2, but she was left alone in the house while her dad was working and sisters were at a school out in the campo, so she hadn´t learned to speak really. She can understand a lot and is learning rather quickly with us and the girls constantly around her. She is so funny and such a sweetheart, but def. active and hates keeping her shoes on, which makes one of the sisters mad haha.
The other two are def. behind the rest of their classmates and working with them can be difficult, but we´ll get there. Schools in the campo just aren´t as good, so it´s not uncommon for girls to be held back their first year in the hogar, but we are working with them and hope this does not happen. The Hermanas joke and call the little one my hija (my daughter) bc i just love her so much.
We did have a couple crazy weeks bc one of the 5 year olds was going to the bathroom in her bed and in her pants sometimes, even at school, so we´ve had to bathe her and keep an eye on her. Turned out she had an infection, so we had to bathe her seperately and such but she´s better now...the little one is potty trained, but if no one´s watching her she´ll go on the floor or in her pants as well, so twice I was the lucky one to clean up the feces (once on the ground of the bathroom and once in her pants). It´s just that she can´t lift herself up on the toilet, so if no one goes with her or pays attention she´ll just go wherever. But the girls are getting better about it, although earlier this week) She has been admitted into the hospital bc she had ear problems and is now getting surgury (bc the pus just got too bad so it was time), so currently she´s not here, please pray that things go alright with her and her surgury.
I also went through my first bout of sickness in Bolivia, really bad bacteria and amoeba infestation in my poor tummy. I ate something bad and perhaps because the other volunteer had it, she could have given it to me (we had a German girl here for 2 months during her school break, she´s our age and new English better than spanish so at least she was able to talk to us better than she could the girls, but she knew some spanish and picked it up pretty well in her time here) Anyway, it caused weight loss, fever, and other not fun stuff. Haven´t ran in over a month :( and had to take almost 3 weeks off of dance, but I´m on the recovery and back at dance full force. Still not running, but a little at a time.
Last note on sickness, last week we had sick night. It´s like crazy, if one person gets sick their roommates most likely will and then it just spreads... plus the weather is changing bc winter is coming at the end of this month so having cooler mornings and evenings than before and moderate day temperatures (at times sunny) it´s just messing everyone up. We had like 3 courses after dinner 1) Rum and orange juice..freshly squeezed I might add 2) ajo= garlich mixed with tomato..the girls faces were classic, they just don´t use garlich much here so they were allowed to eat some bread after they chewed the whole spoonful 3) 2 pots of boiled Eucalyptus leaves created this tea type stuff that a few girls would put a blanket over them and the pot until they sweat. So all the remedies for all the sick and those with even one cough to make sure we stay in good health, including me.
Luckily, nothing serious is spreading around here and the girls seem to be getting better, a few still have meds for bad colds, but yes. Recovery for all...for now anyway.
Pray for continuing good health for all of us and the girls here as we pray for all of you.
