Been a lazy blogger lately, sorry…let´s see what´s been going on lately…
Our Kindergarten girls are beginning to read. We kind of ran out of things to teach them so a few months ago started them on reading and two of the three are doing really good! They are so cute, and they even know numbers up to 100 and times table of 1, in addition to simple math. By Bolivian standards, they could be in 2nd grade really. We even played hangman one day on the chalk board, which was fun.

They are so cute, and they even know numbers up to 100 and times table of 1, in addition to simple math. By Bolivian standards, they could be in 2nd grade really. We even played hangman one day on the chalk board, which was fun.
They are lucky that they get to have almost 1 on 1 help every morning with us, while the other girls just don´t have that excitement for school, motivation or the knowledge of how to study. We do have a couple groups of youth that come during the week to help with homework, twice a week and twice a week the 3 sisters from the convent come to help and we are there when we can be (when we´re not with ballet girls) and we still have one profe, so it´s not like they don’t have the opportunity or help.
We lost 3 girls in last 3 weeks, they went home to family members. The one girl went back with her mom and her niece came home with her too, fed up with all the rules or I don´t know?? The 3rd girl was in University and has been here many years. The deal is that if they have family members, like aunt, grandma maybe older sibling that´s stable and it´s a safe environment and its´mutual between hermanas and the family and girls they are allowed to go home. It all depends, since most are here for lack of parent (or parents), supervision, healthy living and of course poverty.
During their winter vacation (starts today actually) all the girls who received low grades during this first trimester are not allowed to go home with family, they have to stay here as punishment to work and study. Angela and I are studying with them and we´re planning study skills lessons for them! I´m actually excited about that. Like we had study skills in school, but apparently they don´t and with all the copying and short-term memorizing they do, they aren´t really learning how to hang onto information.
So that´s the update, had a nice vacation a couple weeks ago (that I wrote about below) and am now back with the girls for my last month here at HSF.
